Cholesterol

Cholesterol is found in most body tissues, including blood and nerves. It is an important constituent of cell membranes.

However, high blood concentrations of cholesterol (mainly derived from animal fats in the diet) are thought to promote atherosclerosis due to plaques formation, which narrow or block arteries. They also increase significantly the probability of cardiovascular disease development.

There is so called "bad" cholesterol, or low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), which increases risk level, and the "good" one, or high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), which protects your heart. So, cholesterol medicines decrease your LDL, and increase your HDL.

Statins are a group of drugs that act to reduce levels of fats, including cholesterol, in blood. Thus, they are rather helpful in preventing of such heart conditions in high-risk patients.

Attend the doctor and he will prescribe you a single medicinal preparation or a combined therapy of several cholesterol drugs due to your state.
